Scene is about JOEY. Joey stands up to the sheriff- who he thinks has been running the town for too long now. The sheriffs not a favourite of anyones.
No one in the barns sure what’s going to happen next, the rooms full of hesitation and tension. Joeys move could lead to a SHOW DOWN. He’s a junior, and this move may be a naive one, but he’s illuminated by the light blue behind him, suggesting this will clear some air.
The empty chair in the middle indicating a sense of change - who may take the sheriffs place afterwards?
WEST RIDING - is one of three historic subdivisions of Yorkshire. WEST provoking a sense of “its about to go down”
JOEY and SHERIFF (sitting down). Abstracted person/ scenery (behind) embodies this SHOW DOWN potential-slightly mimicking the extended hand JOEY has pointed at the SHERIFF.
